Airvengers

This is my take on Milo and company as the AIR-vengers. Genius inventor Lou Stark becomes The Invincible Iron Bird. Donald Nimbo, a mild-mannered grey cloud, becomes The Mighty Soar. Hank Banner, weather balloon gets hit by gamma radiation and becomes the Incredible Hunk. And, well, Milo doesn’t seem to think his character is all that good. I was really at a loss as to how to give him a shield.

I’m pretty much as big an Avengers fan as there is. Iron Man was my first comic, followed by Cap, and then Avengers. So I’ve been looking forward to the film with a bit of apprehension and a lot of hope. When they said Joss Whedon was directing it, I breathed a sigh of relief and took a deep breath and held it. Joss writes amazing groups. His Astonishing X-Men run was a classic from the word go, and I figured if anybody could handle it, Joss could. And did he ever deliver! Mothers Day

Eva’s back, and good to be drawing her again too. If your mom likes cute comics, maybe share this with her on facebook or G+, and spread the Milo love. Or at least a little aspirin for all those headache-y moments when you were growing up. Hope everyone is having a great week. Drop me a line and let me know what you’re thinking of the new format for the strip. I changed the gutter size, because it was looking a bit like four separate images (thanks, to the friend who called me out on that). Also let me know how this looks on your phone or tablet, if that’s where you’re viewing the strip. I’d love to know how it looks on different platforms.

Lou in a warrior mech is something I’d love to see in a video game. Hope everybody had a good Earth Day. I planted peas the day before, and gave the internet machine a rest on Sunday. Lou is back and causing some hurt to the oil industry.

Awestruck

Several years ago, I took a weekend by myself and did my best to live in complete silence for that weekend. Did a lot of hiking, and tried to avoid situations in which I would have to speak, like ordering food or making a purchase that wasn’t a self-checkout. It’s a tough thing to do, and it’s also absolutely worth doing. You get comfortable with silence, and you get out of your need for reassurance in your own opinions. For Nimbo, I think this is not a permenant thing, but he likely will always be a cloud of few words. He’s my Silent Bob.

It has been way longer than I thought it would be, and I’m sorry for that. In the time since I signed off, I’ve had a baby, renovated a house, and finished illustrating the Milo book. And I’ve been horrible about keeping you informed about that. But it’s done. Right now I’m doing some final editing, and I’m about to start formatting for the ebook release. Haven’t set a day yet, but I’ll be letting you know soon.

But we’re BACK!! I have a small backlog of strips, and I’ve changed the format. I hope you dig it. I’m going to update the look of the site as well, hopefully this week. Drop me a line to let me know you’re around, and I’ll keep up with my posting. We’re going to start out with once a week on Wednesdays and make sure I can handle that before I go jumping in with any more upload days. Having a baby just means that there’s so much more to do than there used to be, and I’m still trying to come up with other forms of Milo fun for you than just the strip. We’ll talk more about the other fun as I can announce it, but trust me there’s really cool things about to pop.

Hiatus

I’ve decided to take a bit of time off from the strip. The archive is there, and I’ll likely not be completely inert here on the strip page, but I need to take some time to focus on the book I’ve neglected for too long. Milo started as a concept for a toy, then that toy created the germ of a story, and eventually a comic strip that I’ve loved working on.

The story eventually got finished, but I’ve been unable to let go and really allow any of the illustrations for it to see the light of day. I was just too unhappy with what I was doing, and wasn’t able to focus at all with the schedule I was trying to keep on the strip. But the story is too important to me to let it languish any longer. I call it my Zen fairy tale, and it will get finished. So that’s going to happen over HERE. I need it to be a separate thing from the strip, and I need to give myself permission to take some time to do it.

At the same time I don’t want you to disappear because you think there’s nothing happening. So, please join me, and know that I’ll be treating this tumblr as my work blog on the book. I’ll be posting sketches and details, and perhaps full pages as well. I haven’t exactly decided yet. What I have decided is that this story is worth telling, and worth finishing. So please come along and enjoy Milo with me as I change the format a bit.

Perhaps the odd Lou, Hank, or Eva strip will pop up back here on the strip side of things. I can’t see neglecting them completely for too long. But thank you for understanding my need to do this for a while. I’ve wrestled with the decision, and I think you’ll come to see why I felt the need to do it this way.
